To complement this racing heritage, the 488 Pista Spider will be previewed at a VIP event at the stunning Morpheus at City of Dream in Macau, coinciding with the opening of the internationally acclaimed exhibition, ‘Ferrari: Under the Skin,’ a touring exhibition from the Design Museum in London in partnership with Museo Ferrari, Maranello, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited’s City of Dreams property. The stunning 488 Pista Spider will then be on display exclusively in City of Dreams from the 25th – 27th January, celebrating the partnership between Ferrari, Blackbird Concessionaires and City of Dreams.
The “Under the Skin” exhibition was initiated to recall the ongoing evolution of innovation and design at Maranello over the past seven decades with a wide range of classic and competition cars featured in the exhibition. The exhibition complements the latest development for Blackbird Concessionaires – the opening of the first ever factory-appointed ‘Officina Ferrari Classiche’ facility in Hong Kong, inside their new state-of-the-art Technical Service Centre. The occasion also marks the first time that Blackbird Concessionaires has chosen to launch a Ferrari in Macau, where it is the sole official dealer for both Ferrari sales and service.
The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider marks the pinnacle of the 488 series in both sporting dynamics and performance and for the level of direct technological transfer from its racing programmes. This latest model continues the tradition of the limited open top variant, becoming sought after for its performance, handling and race-inspired driving characteristics.
As the most powerful V8 Ferrari ever launched, the car’s development was evolved directly from the company’s involvement where it has won five Manufacturers’ titles in the GTE class in the six years since the series’ inception and its 25 years’ experience in running the Ferrari Challenge one-make series.
The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider delivers all of the exhilaration of the 488 Pista, with the added dimension of an open top and the benefit of Ferrari’s highly advanced folding hard top system. Employing extensive weight saving solutions, along with engine, vehicle dynamics and aerodynamic developments that derive directly from the 488 GTE and the 488 Challenge racing cars, the result is a machine with an uncompromising mission: to offer unrelenting performance, on road and track, for drivers with all levels of experience.
As the most powerful V8 in Ferrari’s history, the engine delivers 720 cv with the highest specific output of its class (185 cv/l), being an extreme evolution of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 International Engine of the Year’s Award. As with the body, the engine also employs weight-saving features, thanks to solutions adopted from the 488 Challenge including Inconel exhaust manifolds, a lightened crankshaft and flywheel, as well as titanium connecting rods and carbon-fibre intake plenums.
The engine sound is unique and unmistakably Ferrari - both the quality and the intensity of the engine and exhaust sound of the Ferrari 488 Pista are noticeably higher than the standard 488 GTB and rise in proportion with the progressive increase in power and engine speed.
The Ferrari 488 Pista Spider makes full use of Ferrari’s motor sport experience for maximum aerodynamic performance, even on the road. Among the most prominent of the race-proven solutions included within the Pista’s aerodynamics package is the front mounted, F1-inspired S-Duct, featuring a ramp angle that was optimised for the 488 GTE in order to create increased downforce during on-track performance.
Overall, the vehicle dynamics were designed to enhance driving pleasure and make the car’s full potential available to drivers of all skill levels, professional or otherwise. The objective - to make the car’s limit easier to reach, control and enjoy.
