The all-new F8 Spider joins the F8 Tributo berlinetta in the current Ferrari range offering and is the latest addition to the prestigious bloodline of drop-top V8-powered sports cars that began with the 308 GTS in 1977. The new 720 cv F8 Spider perfectly marries incredible performance with in-car comfort, all packaged in a beautifully-sculpted convertible body that allows the driver to experience every last rapturous decibel from the newly-improved turbocharged V8 mounted behind the cabin — currently in its fourth consecutive year of being named “International Engine of the Year”.

The F8 Spider improves on its predecessor in all aspects, borrowing innovations employed on the 488 Challenge and the more track-focused 488 Pista road car. The formula is simple - more power, less weight, significantly-enhanced aerodynamics and even better road-holding abilities makes the F8 Spider an evolution of an already near-perfect machine.

ENGINE

V8 engines do not come much more refined than the 3,902 cc unit found in the Ferrari F8 Spider. This is the latest iteration of the multi-award-winning Ferrari V8 turbocharged engine, producing a massive 720 cv at an electrifying 8,000 rpm, up 50 cv from its predecessor. Torque has also seen a jump right across the rev range and peaks at 770 Nm at 3,250 rpm, meaning that the F8 Spider isn’t just fast — it’s effortlessly drivable at all rpm ranges too. After decades of refinement, Ferrari’s incredible V8 is a masterpiece of engineering with progressive, limitless acceleration, zero turbo lag and a unique soundtrack that can be fully enjoyed once the retractable hard top is stowed.

DESIGN

Designed by Maranello’s Centro Stile, the F8 Spider continues the style journey that was embarked upon with the F8 Tributo berlinetta, unveiled by Blackbird Concessionaires at Kowloon’s Elements luxury residential and retail complex last year. The goal was to design a stylistic tribute to the Ferrari V8 engine by taking the already-beautiful curves and lines of the existing berlinetta and seamlessly incorporating the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) into the rear of the car, while also relying on inspiration from the most iconic mid-rear-engined V8 models in Ferrari’s long history. The result is an automotive masterpiece that effortlessly blurs the lines between artful form and aerodynamic function.

AERODYNAMICS

The front view of the F8 Spider is dominated by the S-Duct system, which takes its inspiration from Ferrari’s GT racing programs, having first been implemented in a road configuration on the 488 Pista. The entire front end has been redesigned to accommodate this innovative aero feature, while the rear also sees big changes thanks to a larger spoiler that wraps around the classic twin tail light clusters — a nod to the 308 GTS. The F40 inspired engine cover of the F8 Tributo was one of the berlinetta’s biggest talking points at launch, and the F8 Spider is no different with a distinctive manta-like cover created by a central spine that starts from the rear screen before disappearing under the wing. With state-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions and innovations from Ferrari’s GT and Challenge race programs incorporated into this production spider, the results speak for themselves - a staggering 10 percent increase in efficiency over its predecessor.

COCKPIT

The F8 Spider retains the driver-orientated cockpit design typical of Ferrari’s mid-engined V8 cars, allowing for a symbiotic relationship between driver and car, much like Ferrari’s competition cars. The difference here is that the F8 Spider offers the ultimate luxury and comfort for any size and style of driver when seated behind the newly-redesigned wheel. Newly designed seats sit behind a sleek dash that incorporates a tasteful mix of aluminium and carbon fibre into its purposeful yet ergonomic design.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS

When compared to its predecessor, overall performance levels have substantially increased with the new drop-top. All factors combined, the F8 Spider is considerably more powerful, lighter and more aerodynamic, yet its incredible limits are accessible to more drivers than ever before thanks to improved vehicle dynamic systems that make driving on the edge a more confidence-inspiring place to be once there. The latest iterations of a host of clever systems — Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer Plus, Side Slip Control, EDiff 3 make what was once unimaginable for all but the world’s best drivers an everyday possibility for Hong Kong and Macau’s most dedicated Ferraristi.

With an extended seven-year maintenance programme offered alongside all cars in the current Ferrari range offering, Blackbird Ferrari Technical Service will ensure that all cars delivered will be kept at optimal levels over the entire maintenance period.

The Ferrari F8 Spider proudly continues the lineage of the famous V8 mid-rear engined platform - a configuration that has been at the forefront of the modern-day Ferrari identity in the imagination of the public since the 308 GTS. Growing from strength to strength and now equipped with the most powerful iteration of the wildly successful V8 engine, the F8 Spider represents the perfect evolution of an already highly acclaimed platform.
